98.5 tranny problems auto DTT upgrades

A friend is on his way to Baja and just north of the border his tranny is having a lot of problems shifting. He can manually shift it but it won't shift unless he moves the shifter into each gear. It will not stay in overdrive. He says seems to stay in lock up in drive. He has a DTT noise filter which he has adjusted to 4.65 volts and that didn't help. Any Ideas would be great. I'll get him on the phone and see if I can get any more info. He is a fellow TDR member user name S Aronson. Thanks for any help in advance.
