Truck will not start.

My dad is out camping and his truck will not start. He had a check engine light come on and stay on for quiet a while. While he was camping, one of his buddies told him if he takes the terminals off the batteries, the check engine light may reset. He did so and now (after replacing the terminals on the battery) the check engine light is flashing and the truck will turn over, but will not start. Also there is a relay clicking under the hood while trying to start. Any ideas? His truck is an '06 with the 5.9L engine.
