99 ISB with auto

On my last trip up to tahoe towing my trailor, out of overdrive feathering the throttle as not to get the trany to shutter, at a straight incline I noticed the engine pulsing 200 RPM, so I just keeped babying to the camp site and then back home, then to carson dodge where Im now getting a trany overhaul, I asked the service writer about the pulsing and he said it could be my alternator, could he be right?
