    no start. fuel shutoff valve?

I'm looking at an older Case excavator powered by a 12 valve cummins with what appears to be a VE rotary pump. It has fuel pressure to the inlet of the pump, but won't start. Would the shutoff solenoid keep it from starting, or just keep it from stopping. Also, should it have power to the solenoid only to stop, or does it work some other way? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the shut off. You can bypass it to verify, running out front to check the procedure. Stand by. . . . . .

You can unhook the power wire, pull the solenoid and remove the plunger underneath, the re-install the solenoid to seal the hole. If it starts you have shut off or electrical issues. Do not re-attach the wire while doing the test.

Send me an e-mail and I will attach the page from the service manual.

OK. Simple fix, right? No power to the fuel solenoid. I jumpered power and it started and ran fine. Now I just have to fix the travel pilot circuit and we can get it out of the corner of the building making it more accessible to fix the rest of the hydraulic system. Thanks for the great info.

The wiring is fine back around the engine. In the cab, someone removed the original computer and installed a lever and throttle cable. I don't know what other original controls were removed or bypassed. It ran like that for awhile, but then the hydraulics started acting up. Most of the electrical problems will likely be in the cab area. If I can get the travel circuit halfway working, I can get it out of the far corner of a building and into the open where I have more light and I can get my truck right next to it and not have to carry tools a distance.

if it will run via a hot wire to the fuel shut off , just un hook other wires and run it that way is what id do
