    If you will recall, in our Issue 125 magazine (August, September, October) our “Technical Topics” discussion was about the Indianapolis 500: Cummins, Innovation and Entertainment.

    In the article I noted that “Ours is a diesel truck magazine.” I steered the audience to previous discussions in the TDR about Mr. Clessie Cummins’ involvement with his early diesel engine products. Would Cummins continue to use a 4-stroke design or would they go the route of a 2-stroke engine? The decision was made after the Indianapolis 500 race in 1934. For an easy reference to that history lesson, see the TDR’s Dodge/Cummins Historical Perspective book, pages 93-105 (specifically page 98).

    Several weeks ago we reintroduced two videos that talked about Cummins engines and turbocharger development in the early 1950s. Again, Cumins used the Indianapolis 500 race as a test opportunity.
